Das Fort Albeck wurde 1846 bis 1859 auf der Kuppe des Safranberges erbaut. Es war mit maximal 1340 Mann belegt und ist das größte Außenfort der Bundesfestung Ulm. Das Fort befindet sich großteils im Besitz der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, der Bereich des Reduit gehört zu den Liegenschaften der Stadt Ulm.

Das Fort Albeck liegt auf dem Safranberg nahe der Bundesstraße 19 (Heidenheimer Straße). Das Gelände wurde mehrfach bebaut, heute befinden sich Wohnungen sowie mehrere Gewerbebauten auf dem Werksinneren. Im Reduit sitzt die Deutsche Pfadfinderschaft St. Georg Stamm Saint-Exupéry Ulm-Safranberg sowie ein Modellbauverein.
